Yea, its weekend again!! I am sure most people are looking fwd for their weekends just like me.. Oh well, my first week of the second semester was not that bad actually.. My timetable are as usual the same with just an extra session of CCS last tuesday.. Other than that, my routine life has been the same throughout the year.. How boring.. However, this semester, the school made few changes on my timetable, in which I have my Clinical coaching every Wednesday afternoon instead of the usual thursday morning.. I actually prefer it to be on a Thurs than Wed, coz it saves my time and money that way.. Now, I have to catch the bus almost everyday to get to Herston where I have my PBL and CC.. Hmmm, what a time consuming journey!!
This week's case is about Drug abuse.. We are now doing Psychiatric block.. Not my favourite really.. and I dun have anything much to contribute to my PBL for this block, coz psychiatry is just not my thing.. I noe its importance but yeah, I dun think I'll be a good psychiatrist.. This week's case is pretty straight forward and we learned about all the drugs of abuse eg cannabis, marijuana, cocaine, benzos, etc.. Lots of drugs in action really and I dun noe anything before this haha except for ecstasy, alcohol, Heroine and Marijuana (yg lain nda famous hehe)
My clinical coaching was fun and my tutor is good and helpful.. He is our new tutor for the coming 8 weeks or so and he is kind enough to find good and interesting patients for us to do history taking and examinations.. This week itself, we get to meet 3 patients.. Our first patient is a patient with Right Bundle Branch Block (RBBB) presented with feeling of faintness. Our tutor made me interpret his ECG, in which I have not revised after the exam huhu and thank god, the small bits are on top of my head.. so although I was a little bit slow, I still can manage to interpret the ECG hehe.. Our second patient is a patient with Right Heart Failure. We did a gastro-examination and found that his liver is enlarged and he had ascites.. He is also cachexic and appeared to be anorexic.. Anyway, our third patient has Graves disease ( a type of hyperthyroidism) and presented with exopthalamus (protusion of the eyeball) and also inflammation of the eyes.. Overall, the sesion was well organised and we learnt a lot from that quick session..
Also, I had my gastro-Urinary tract examination last Friday.. I had my exam at 115pm and had to find a patient to do the exam.. This tym it takes me a while to searcj for a patient.. I had to search at Ward 8B south and also 9Bsouth/north to find a good patient.. Almost all the patients are old and also too sick hehe so I was being fussy and try my best to fit someone fit for the exam and thank god, I find one.. She is a 55 year old patient presented with few clinical diagnosis and I did my examination on her.. Luckily, she is a very friendly patient and it was easy for me to build good rapport with the patient.. Overall, the exam went well and I passed.. i still have 2 more systems (Neuro and also MSK) to do before I am finally done..
